Olafur Eliason – ‘The Land Between Us’  at the Whitworth Art Gallery

Taking a radical approach to landscape art, The Land Between Us presents historic and modern as works together and on equal terms. The exhibition focuses on the imagery of landscape, the places it depicts, the cultural and political power invested in the land and how meaning is found between art and the viewer.

Highlights from the Whitworth’s outstanding collection of historic art are displayed alongside recent and contemporary work. All of the gallery’s Turner watercolours are on show next to Black Audio Film Collective’s Handsworth Songs, both presenting complex and lyrical visions of Britain. Olafur Eliasson tranforms one gallery into a forest, and William Holman Hunt meets Larissa Sansour to exchange views of Palestine. Featuring major artist from past to present, The Land Between Us imagines a place where art, artist and viewer confront each other beyond the limits of their individual frontiers.
